Scout Motors, a VW spin-off brand for the U.S. market, has revealed its first two models: the Traveler SUV and Terra truck. Dubbed “production-intent concepts,” these vehicles channel the rugged charm of the original 1960s and ’70s Scout lineup while embracing modern EV technology.
Built on an in-house body-on-frame chassis, both models feature solid rear axles, locking differentials, and 35-inch tires, with over a foot of ground clearance. Powered by electric motors generating 1,000lb-ft of torque, they achieve 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and promise up to 350 miles of range. Range-extending variants will push this to over 500 miles.
The Terra offers a 5.5-foot truck bed with multiple power outlets, while the Traveler can tow 3,175kg. Both vehicles boast bi-directional charging, wading capability of nearly a meter, and modular software for real-time updates and diagnostics. Inside, Scout pairs touchscreens with physical controls and offers rugged yet functional finishes.
Prices are expected to start at $60,000, with production slated for 2027. With a nostalgic design, Scout aims to rival the likes of the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck.
