McLaren Automotive has been sold to CYVN Holdings, an investment firm owned by the government of Abu Dhabi. The business acquisition comes at a time of considerable investment for the firm, which has a growing portfolio including roughly a $2.2 billion stake in Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer NIO and a controlling stake in Gordon Murray Technologies.
A purchase price has not been published for this most recent sale, but it is expected that McLaren will have additional resources available after this acquisition to continue growing its market share and product portfolio. This includes a potential expansion into the high-performance EV sector, where the British performance car brand could potentially leverage EV expertise from NIO and Gordon Murray Technologies in its new models.
Both McLaren Automotive and Gordon Murray Technologies are valued clients of Contechs, which has provided innovative design and engineering expertise across the product development process for several years.
