PowerCo, a Volkswagen Group subsidiary company, has announced a groundbreaking agreement with QuantumScape to industrialise production of next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology.
The agreement enables PowerCo to mass produce battery cells based on QuantumScape’s technology platform at a rate of up to 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) per year, with the option to expand up to 80 GWh – enough to supply roughly one million vehicles per year. Volkswagen aims to utilise this new partnership to power future electrified models within its range.
