Job Description
As Powertrain Principal Design Engineer your main responsibilities are:
- Detailed design & engineering of components and systems from concept to production.
- New concept layouts for components of on-vehicle engine systems and vehicle integration & package schemes leading to detailed designs for prototype and production release and manufacture.
- Understand and define the package constraints for the components.
- Working with suppliers to ensure components and systems meet technical and package targets and to deliver detailed designs on time to predetermined quality, cost and weight targets and within DFM requirements.
- Work with other team members to develop component and system specifications.
- Create and update DFMEA and Technical Specifications
- Work with the other designers, lead engineers and the component supplier to achieve efficient, innovative and lightweight designs.
- Ensures the components interface seamlessly to the wider car including structural interfaces, cooling systems, low and high voltage electrical systems and control systems.
- Support powertrain component & vehicle development activities, manufacture and launch planning
- Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews
- BOM definition and management.
Qualifications / Skills needed
- CATIA V5 / V6 2D/3D skills with GD&T application experience.
- A high level of technical knowledge & experience of Powertrain component & system design, packaging, engine test & production.
- Educated to degree level in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
- A passion for high performance powertrain engineering.
- Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to concept design and solving engineering problems with good attention to detail.
- Excellent feasibility assessment skills including design for manufacture
- A positive, proactive attitude with a high level of self-motivation to deliver excel
